چکیده

ment was not successful, and possibly a longer duration of transplacental treatment would have been more appropriate. In our series the Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome as the underlying cause of the tachycardia was found in three of the 22 infants who had a postnatal electrocardiogram. In summary p, ,hological atrial tachycardias are a potential cause of non-immune hydrops. As these rhythm disturbances may be intermittent, this diagnosis should be considered in all cases of fetal hydrops even if the tachycardia is not present at the initial examination. It is not possible to predict which of the non-hydropic fetuses will progress to become hydropic. We therefore believe that an attempt at transplacental treatment is valid in all cases. Our results show that maternal transplacental treatment is both safe and effective and may avert preterm delivery and its attendant morbidity.

Effects of Pluchea lanceolata Root Extract on Cisplatin induced Nausea and Vomiting in Rat Pica Model

Cisplatin is an effective chemotherapeutics against a wide range of cancers. However, it causes significant nausea and vomiting which limit its usefulness. In the present study, the effects of methanolic root extract of Pluchea lanceolata (DC.) C. B. Clarke , asteraceae ( MPL ) was investigated against cisplatin-induced nausea using a rat pica model. In rat pica model, rats react to cispla...

The antiemetic 5-HT3 receptor antagonist Palonosetron inhibits substance P-mediated responses in vitro and in vivo.

Palonosetron is the only 5-HT(3) receptor antagonist approved for the treatment of delayed chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) in moderately emetogenic chemotherapy. Accumulating evidence suggests that substance P (SP), the endogenous ligand acting preferentially on neurokinin-1 (NK-1) receptors, not serotonin (5-HT), is the dominant mediator of delayed emesis. However, palonosetron...

Evidence for the presynaptic action of 5-hydroxytryptamine and the involvement of purinergic innervation in the rabbit lower urinary tract.

1. The effects of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) were studied in vitro on bladder and urethral muscle strips from the rabbit. 5-HT produced dose-dependent contraction in the detrusor and urethra. 2. The 5-HT-induced contraction could be dose-dependently inhibited by the 5-HT3 antagonists MDL 72222, ICS 205-930 and BRL 43694. No effect of ketanserin, methysergide or metitepine was observed on the co...

Management of chemotherapy induced emesis

Important progress has been achieved in the last few years in the prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting thanks to the introduction in clinical practice first of the 5-HT3 antagonists and of the NK1 antagonists more recently. To prevent acute emesis induced by cisplatin/moderately emetogenic chemotherapy, a combination of aprepitant plus a 5-HT3 antagonist and dexamethasone/a 5-...

Management of Chemotherapy Induced Nausea and Vomiting in Patients on Multiday Cisplatin Based Combination Chemotherapy

Introduction of cisplatin based chemotherapy has revolutionized the treatment of germ cell tumors. A common side effect of multiday cisplatin chemotherapy is severe nausea and vomiting. Considerable progress has been made in the control of these side effects since the introduction of cisplatin based chemotherapy in the 1970s. Germ cell tumor which is a model for a curable neoplasm has also turn...
